Black Chaos Comes Again

"Classic monster stories (the mummy, the witch, the werewolf) except the monsters are teenage girls in the Mississippi delta."

Black Chaos Comes Again is a five-volume YA supernatural horror series that takes the classic Universal monsters — the mummy, the witch, the werewolf, the reanimated dead — and reimagines them as teenage girls coming of age in the Mississippi delta.

When an ancient goddess wakes beneath a small delta town, the girls everyone overlooked find themselves inheriting monstrous power: Caitlyn, the invisible narrator who dies and comes back; Seble, the mummy-princess fused with a cat goddess; Brígh, who carries a wolf in her genes; and Petra, whose weapon is a mind that refuses to feel. What follows is a war between the old gods and the people who'd dare defy them: theology against science, legacy against rebellion, and the very real cost of both.

Told in rotating first-person voices that swing from deadpan-funny to genuinely harrowing, the series asks what we become when the monsters are real, and when they're us.
